Jennifer’s Journey from Pilates to Marathons
This month, we’re thrilled to shine a light on our incredible Client of the Month – Jennifer – whose commitment to Pilates, running, and community is truly inspiring.
Jennifer has been part of our All Active family for years, and her weekly classes have become a cornerstone of her wellness routine. When asked what keeps her coming back, she shared:
“All of the instructors are fantastic – Andrea, Kerry and Katie. Secondly, the people in the class. There’s a great connection between those who attend and those who take the classes. It’s hard work but good fun – the hour just flies by!”
It was this same strength and spirit that saw Jennifer take on not one, but two marathons – Belfast 2023 and London 2024, running in support of Crohn’s & Colitis UK, a cause close to her heart as her husband lives with Colitis. Her fundraising efforts contributed to a phenomenal total of £234,000 raised for the charity through the London Marathon.
Pilates has played a key role in keeping Jennifer strong, mobile, and injury-free during marathon training:
“Pilates has enabled me to keep running into my 40s and stretch myself to run 26 miles twice – and stay injury free. Kerry gave me specific exercises to do at home to help prepare my body for those longer miles.”
Crossing the finish line in London was a memory she’ll never forget:
“It was amazing. The weather was beautiful (maybe a bit too beautiful for running ), the crowds were phenomenal, and the runners came from all over the world. The Mall was just unreal – I’ll never forget the noise and the support.”
Of course, marathon training has its challenges – especially in the heat – but Jennifer found strength in the shared purpose of the runners and the support of the crowd:
“Everyone around me was running for a cause. It was a powerful reminder of what people can achieve together through sport.”
Jennifer’s advice for anyone considering a big challenge?
“Give it a go. People will support and help you. Joining a club like Jog Lisburn really helped me – not just with running partners but emotional support too.”
As a working mum, Jennifer knows how hard it can be to carve out time for yourself. That’s why the All Active community has meant so much to her over the years:
“When I started, I had two very young children and just wanted to get out of the house and rebuild my fitness. Now, All Active helps me meet big goals like running marathons. The flexible classes, online options, and supportive instructors make it possible to keep prioritising health – even with a busy life.”
Jennifer, thank you for inspiring us all – your humour, determination, and dedication are a joy to be around. Whether you’re arriving on time or fashionably late , we love having you as part of the All Active community!
